That Girl

by Jenni Marie   Sep 20, 2006

That girl stares longingly into the distance
Wishing she was somebody else
Longing to stop feeling what she feels
and waiting for her inner pain to heal.

That girl knows she has much to overcome
Her life hasn't yet even begun
She has her hopes and dreams
But inside, emotional turmoil screams.

As she stares out across the sky
she lets out an audible sigh
She thinks of her many fears
and here come the tears.

They cascade down her face
Like a river running free
She holds her head in her hands
and thinks 'oh please just let me be.'

That girl is looking forward to the future
She believes that wonderful things are yet to arrive
And she waits eagerly for them to come
Remembering all the things she'd been deprived.

That girl has a lot of damaging coping mechanisms
Bad things she does to help her get through
But until her hopes and dreams arrive
she'll do whatever it takes to survive.

That girl is often misunderstood for all the things she does
But she'll do whatever it takes to be free
And more often than not,
that girl feels quite like me.
