After A While

by Quiet Rejection   Sep 23, 2006

After a while you get used to feeling pain, and pain dies away,
I wasn't quite sure what he meant that day,
But looking back I can see the raindrops falling one by one,
Like tears slipping away under the sinking sun.

And I see the pain reflected in these eyes of mine,
And I know I'll still love you till the end of time,
And eventually we'll drift away, leaving our hearts sore,
I'll go on my own way and you'll go yours.

After a while you get used to feeling pain, and pain dies away,
And there are so many things that I really meant to say,
And we'll pass each other in the dreadful silence,
And when I'm alone I'll break into self violence.

And after a while you get used to feeling pain, and pain dies away,
And you'll learn to leave it behind with each passing day,
And the memories that ripped your fragile, hollow mind,
Will be left in a pool or red tragedy far, far behind.
