The Evil Within

by Bill Turner   Oct 14, 2006

Sweat dripping from my brow
Crack of the whip tearing my flesh
Kicking in my teeth with each bow
Cannot get my feelings and life to mesh

Demons haunt me day and night
Burrowing under my well worn skin
Driving me to destroy what is right
Life destroyed by the evil that lies within

I must stand and face the demons I see
Ignoring the vinegar they piss in my ear
They are in the mirror looking back at me
Their words my heart does feel the sear

The beasts have haunted me all my life
Urging my dark and self destructive way
At times of peace, stirring up great strife
Clinging to me, riding along each day

Love will help me stand strong
Giving me the reason to change my life
No more will I do all that is wrong
Relying on the love of my future wife

I know I have the power within me
Now I have the reason to wield such strength
Darkness no more; I will break free
Life is a journey; I will go the length

Wow! I know just how you feel. Things in life that are bad or painful have a way of hanging on, and sometimes it takes someone special to free us. I'm glad you found someone to walk with you in your journey towards freedom.

Wow Bill this was well written.
    My fav stanza was:

Demons haunt me day and night
Burrowing under my well worn skin
Driving me to destroy what is right
Life destroyed by the evil that lies within

Hooked me from start to finish.
