Trapped Inside Myself

by JL   Oct 15, 2006

Images blur around me
Sensations filter through my body
Words trapped within
Under lock and key

Staring straight ahead
Unable to move as I please
In a state of temporary paralysis
It seems Autism is a disease

Sounds become louder
Making no sense at all
Bla, bla, bla is all I hear
Even my own Mothers call

Devoid of all emotion
No pain, sadness, love or laughter
All I know is when I am touched
My skins burns and burns

Autism trys to rob me
Of language, intelligence, friendship and life
Autism trys to control me
But I will beat the strife

I will not give up
Though it burns me alive
Autism will not control me
I will survive

(about a person who has Autism; Donna Williams was my inspiration)

Wow, ur rite, i bet autistic people must feel like that, even without knowing it, cuz they are sort of trapped, because they can't do anything about it on their own. love how youy saw their perspective, and thanks for commenting on my cancer poem, i also tried to see somone else's point of view (a friend with cancer). wonderfully written, i liked it.

An inspirational and powerful piece. Makes one realize that there is always someone else with worse problems than your own. Wonderfully written...

You have captured the sentiment of autism really well in this write. It must be so difficult to be living in a world where so many our so selfish when you are dealing with any disability.
It was very generous of you to share the struggles that people with autism face on a daily basis. The flow was great and I like the words chosen that you used for rhymes

This is an excellent poem, JL. And I really must commend you on your choice of topic. It's not something many would venture to pursue, but you did a really nice job on it. It shows us that our lives aren't always as bad as we like to believe. Someone is always having a tougher time, and if they are strong enough to overcome it then we should be able to, too.
