Lost Souls

by Jemma   Nov 3, 2006

Black lake
Crimson lights
Faces mourning
A sorry state
Many leering
All despair
The putrid stench
Caught in the sluice
They cower
But know there is no escape
It is a dark gloom
It is their murky past
Unavoidable justice
For their foolish endeavours
Lost in wars of lies
Sleeping in beds of knives
Gasping for air
Each and every day
In a valley where light is so precious
Because there, dark prevails
It is all that exists
Eating their souls
Taking them deeper and deeper
Until there is no further that they can go
And time passes them by
Knowing not if they be ghosts or shadows
They are numb
And yet the pain echoes through them
They've taken so much of it
Learnt to grimace
But take another step
It is unforgiving
As they keep on dying
The crowds swell
An exponential growth of sinners
Unloved, dead inside
There is no redemption
For these lost souls

    Nice poem...my fave part:
    But take another step
    It is unforgiving
    As they keep on dying
    The crowds swell
    An exponential growth of sinners
    Unloved, dead inside
    There is no redemption
    For these lost souls

No Redemption for the Lost Souls??........Is that really the Promise?

    Excellent writing.
