The Hourglass

by Midnight Sun   Nov 13, 2006

The sand slips through the glass
As my life slips through my fingers
It ignores my pleas
As I beg it to linger

I watch the grains fall back on themselves
As the fire in my eyes burns down
If only I left my misery
Back with that stupid town

But I sit on this wooden chair
I sit in the candle light
I'm here in the dark to ignore my pain
If only it'd leave my cursed sight!

My mentality must change from my pessimism
I must get up and move on
For the moon is coming quickly
With the going of the sun

Please, just let me sit here one more night
Let me sadly dwell on my past
I need a few more hours
To watch the hourglass

I can relate to this right now in so many ways.
Sometimes we just need time to relax the mind and sort out the tumble of thoughts..
Your vocab and metaphors are amazing as always!

Honestly...this was a beautiful poem with a great beginning. In the 3rd stanza I would use a word other than sit cuz you used it twice. But other than that it was pretty good and a good write from you! Glad to see you posting again! LOL !
