To cover up the pain

by Karl Wild GG23   Nov 16, 2006

As she steps into the class
Everyone stops to stare
She hears " look there's another bruise
And another one right there"

She pulls her sweater down
To cover up the pain
Out of sight out of mind for the classroom
Now she won't have to explain

Explain how her father beat her
Once again last night
But how could this be happening
To a girl so sweet and polite?

Her father comes home drunk
Furious like a cyclone
She complains and leads him on
So he'll leave her baby sister and mom alone

He pulls her by the hair
Grabs her by the arm
Doesn't care that she's his daughter
Just wants to do her harm

He throws her down the stairs
And when she hits the bottom
She checks for all her teeth
Yup she's still got em'

She stands up but doesn't run
Because that just makes it worse
Now bleeding from the head
Good thing her mother's a nurse

He grabs her hard by the arm again
Yells "LOOK AT THIS F U C K I N G HOUSE
WHAT DID YOU DO ALL DAY NOTHING?
WHY DO I EVEN HAVE CHILDREN AND A SPOUSE?

"I do everything around here
Go to work,pay the bills"
She cries "Dad please stop
Please stop hitting me it kills"

To her amazement and surprise
He let's go and walks away
She takes a breath, opens her eyes
And prays to god thats the way it will stay

But she's not that lucky
He's come back for more
Oh no whats that in his hand?
He's got something else in store

He smashes her across the face
With the but end of his .45
How can she take such a beating?
How can she still be alive?

He tells her sit down in that chair
And don't try to move
Why is he still doing this?
What's he got to prove?

He heads over to the staircase
Looks up and cocks the gun
Yells "here I come girls
Nows your chance to run"

As he enters the room
Lamps, clothes and glass go flying
He opens up the closet door
And See's the two girls crying

He says "say goodbye to Daddy
It's time to take your life
Useless little daughter and
Ungrateful no good wife"

He pulls the trigger twice
Gunshots ring the air
The closet cries stop
To the girl downstairs despair

He heads back to the kitchen
To finish what he started
She doesn't try to run
Soon she'll be departed

As he puts the gun to her head
She slowly closes her eyes
At least there won't be school tomorrow
At least there won't be lies

She's gone with her sister and mother
To a better place
Where they'll forever be protected
Under gods embrace.

That poem... was touching. It made me cry. It reminds me of my own Father, in a way. Wow.
