A mermaid she is

by Run out of words   Nov 17, 2006

She sits on the rocks,
Eyes filled with fear,
down her bare back falls long golden locks,
And she looks across the horizon to make sure no ship is near.

A mermaid she is,
constantly in hiding,
on earth greed for fame exists,
and in her heart flames of fear is lighting.

Every where she glances,
she remembers her friends,
as on them sin prances,
and their funerals she attends.

Wanted is she by all,
Afraid is she to fall,
Why must beauty cost so much?
Noone deserves the pain of such.

Those who crave to be different,
don't know what different means,
Did she ask for this...no she didn't
She'd hand it over, the figure, the face, the hair so very sea green.

A mermaid she is,
she spoils her face by crying so,
she longs for her cheek to feel a warm kiss,
but alone in hiding she can't help but to feel low.

She sees a strong wave hit her rock,
a vision appears,
A ship nearby has left its dock.

And with force she dives,
into the glistening ripples of water,
and behind seaweed she hides,
afraid they have caught her.

For her fate will be,
the fate of her family,
hung up on display,
cold and dead on exhibition she will lay.

A mermaid she is,
with poise and beauty,
but her self respect died because of this,
and now hiding is her new found duty.
