Dark eyes... red eyelashes [quatern]

by Elynnka   Dec 5, 2006

Raven dark – a cold mystic gaze,
Shattered souls amid these wretched graves
Passing by and going right through
These walls and doors, through me and you.

Silhouette by sun set ablaze,
Raven dark – a cold mystic gaze
That pierces beneath your pale skin
To watch and see what lies within.

Scarlet lashes batting like wings
Of a butterfly that bliss brings -
Raven dark – a cold mystic gaze
That astounds you in many ways.

Peek beyond the velvet blue skies,
Behold how her seraphic eyes
Stand out in the golden sun rays -
Raven dark – a cold mystic gaze.

A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme.
