Soft Whispers

by mayme   Dec 5, 2006

Soft whispers of a love forbidden and alone
Entered my heart like flowers in the spring.
I tried to ignore it and turn away,
But the harder I ran the further I fell.

When I looked into your brown eyes,
There was a love so deep and pure,
A love waiting to be shared,
A love only God could give.

I watched a sadness rip through you
As you cried beside me and emptied your soul.
It was at that moment I realized
That through the pain lies the beauty I feared.

Then in a moment
Blind eyes stole our gift,
Ending the laughter with an ignorant anger.
And as the vision passed, to be seen no more,
It was to my surprise I did not mourn.

Instead I sat, calm and content
Knowing the mistake had met its end
For I knew it was not true love I felt
But a sorrow that within I held.

I watched as you held onto the night,
and turned from the light
Telling you of the freedom ahead.
Instead you faced the darkness,
Watching the demons dance
Encircling you, pulling you.
As the devil laughs and holds your hand
