Hero

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Dec 22, 2006

*I wrote this for my dad. He is amazing, and my hero. I'm going to read this at my wedding for him. Until then, only you guys know about this...*

She's taking her first
Little steps
In the direction of you
Your extended arms
Look like a safety net
She can fall into
She smiles when she
Reaches you
Your hug is all she needs
The warmth she feels
Wrapped up in you
Will always make her believe

You take away her pain
And hold her close
When she cries
And you think you're just
Her daddy
But you're a hero
In her eyes

She slams the door
Behind her
Holding her face in her hands
She runs to her bedroom
Because she
Doesn't know you understand
You knock twice
On the door
Then quietly let yourself in
You are so determined to
Turn that frown
Back into a grin

You take away her pain
And hold her close
When she cries
And you think you're just
Her daddy
But you're a hero
In her eyes

You're walking her down
The aisle
It's time to give her away
The beautiful woman she's
Grown into
Leaves you with nothing to say
She whispers "Daddy,
I love you"
Before she lets you go
You wipe a tear from your eye
As you answer,
"Baby girl, I already know"

You took away my pain
And held me close
When I cried
And you think you're just
My daddy
But you're a hero
In my eyes
