The Performance

by Rona   Jan 10, 2007

They sit on the bench,
Where the piano awaits.
Eager to start playing,
Ready to fascinate.

The dynamic so soft,
Slow is the speed.
Duets are nice,
The Primo takes the lead.

Secondo follows behind,
Waiting her turn to shine.
Playing from the top,
This music so refine.

The audience listens intently,
Reminiscing as they play.
Listeners are left,
With nothing to say.

Playing with eyes closed,
Their fingers light on the keys.
Feeling each rhythm,
Feet on pedals quickly release.

Their hearts take over
The music they play.
Each note heard,
Takes your breath away.

Deep dedication
Is what they possess.
Their love of music,
Is what they express.

The flow is smooth,
Rhythm just right.
Their story they tell,
This one magical night.

After their performance,
Audience stand and applause.
Feeling proud of their duet,
Great emotion is what they've caused.

Once again,VERY good poem.As always you seem to make each word flow to the next keeping you in-transe as the story unfolds in the mind

I liked the subject of playing music to a live audience, the way you described that they even had their eyes closed showed they were enjoying it.
I see you tried to stay away from the overused rhyming words, however in places it did seem a little forced to me.
Rhymes always come across forced if they read unusual to the natural spoken way; if words have been swapped around to rhyme.
I didn't like the use of "nice" in the second stanza, it seems quite boring.
In conclusion, I liked the subject idea, I just feel more thought should have gone into the word choice.

Wow! I really loved how you described the sound, although they were words, I could hear it! This was very nicely done, and I can definitely relate to this because I have performed, in a band, and I have also performed as a solo piano player. You set the mood really well, and everything was perfect. Good job on this one!
