In The Name

by Poetically Speaking   Jan 22, 2007

I thought it was in the city,
somewhere in the side-by-side boxes.
Where buses roamed or children sang,
backyards with fireplaces burning in the rain.

I coulda swore it was out there,
peering out of my window panes.
But I looked everywhere in the city,
yet I never looked in your name.

How a fool I was to be so blind,
to think that the feeling was so easy to find.

I thought it was in the trees,
or in the boxes just the same.
Somewhere in the city I thought,
but never within your name.

You are the only one, my everything.
To me you are the kid on the swing.
Laughing as she plays in open air,
echoing her laughter without a care.

You're the cars passing by my window,
there every time I listen.
You're the city lights lighting up a Moonless sky,
you're the name I call for each time try not to cry.

I coulda swore it was out there,
peering out of my window panes.
But I looked everywhere in the city,
yet I never looked in your name.

In the city you were there,
doing your thing all the same,
I knew you were in the city Dinah,
but I was looking everywhere but in the name.

Another great piece. I really enjoyed this poem, even though I don't read slang pieces often. Very nice job. *5.5
