If My Heart

by Sapphire   Jan 27, 2007

If my heart was a book
And it took you months to read
To understand, to figure out
If my heart was a song
Every note was a piece of it
Every word was my pain
If my heart was a letter
Would you take the time to read
Between the lines and words in plain sight
OR
Would you place the book back on a shelf
Forget the song and learn another
Or burn the letter in a fire
If I gave you my heart
Told you what made it beat
Told you how to take care of it
Told you the layers upon layers of pain and happiness
Told you its ability to love or shut down
Would you take it in your hands
Cherish its existence
To whom it belongs
OR
Would you crumple it up like a wad of paper
Throw it on the ground and let the next one pick it up?
