Sunset

by Ryan C   Feb 8, 2007

Sitting in a room of black,
He creeps across the floor.
A dark wide Rabbit Hole,
Begging her to explore.
The terror soon surrounds her,
As she begs to crawl back out.
Eyes and a smile form before her,
A body they're without.
"Hello my dear Sunset,
of Sanity and Innocence.
I shall be your tour guide,
on this gentle ride of grievance.
"Inch by inch,
Piece by piece,
Your Insanity will grow,
Break by break,
Beat by beat,
Until the beatings slow.
"Come now my sweet sunset,
for the time we waste is dust,
Let us discover gluttony, sloth and anger,
pride, greed, envy and lust."
With that the Rabbit Hole grew,
Into a world of Hearts and Spade,
Diamonds, Clubs and Queens and forests,
The land from which the tour guide never strayed.
Uncontrollably dancing,
Left foot forward right foot back,
Turn, kick, dip, pivet right, spin left,
Silk red shines against the black.
A partner given to her,
A boy dressed in the Rabbit Hole's appearance,
Yet a trustful face he bears,
Showing still living signs of prudence.
A feeling of change overwhelms,
Darkness and indulgence,
Sweeping lust across her mind,
Losing her sweetest innocence.
"Painfully Apathetic,
The feeling you now feel.
For the feeling you are feeling,
Is so blissfully surreal."
And with a blinking of his eyes,
And the appearance of his fur,
The girl was feeling faint,
Unable to reach her partner.
A Heart snuck up behind him,
A blade of hate in hand,
The slicing and the screaming,
Was all that she could stand.
Shooting from her position,
And taking stand upon the Heart,
Fists of rage and pain,
Unto his face she began to impart.
Heart withering beneath her,
She continued her one-sided combat,
"Gluttony, Sloth and Anger,"
Uttered the floating cat.
"Your lover's in a better place,
But where is as bad as here?
You have one chance at redemption,
No need to cry, sunset, my dear.
"This vile I hold now,
Will restore him to his health,
But Sunset my sweetness,
Are you sure that this will help?"
Swallowing the potion,
The girl's lover brought to life,
Filled once more with inner turmoil,
And the pain of eternal strife.
"Proud now are you darling?
Although my warnings warned indeed,
You brought him back to hell,
And for your own sake, that is greed!
"Now one more step to take,
Before the sun can set,
One more needing needed,
The final sin has not been met."
And with a blinking of his eyes,
and his smile flipped to frown,
The girl escaped the Rabbit Hole,
Only to travel farther down.
Placed in a silent room,
Tied with restraints upon each arm,
The room was padded top to floor,
To keep the girl from harm.
On the other side of the room,
Sits a girl dark as the soulless,
Her final lesson Envy,
Of a girl named simply "Alice"
