Eyes

by Kaitlyn   Feb 11, 2007

The eyes are a bridge to the soul,
My eyes, the colour of coal,
Ugly and hard to gaze into,
Reflect the darkness at heart,
All the pain I've let stew.

The eyes express all emotion,
My eyes, light only with arson,
Show only wounded anger,
Never bright with tears,
Nor soft with loving tender.

The eyes prove the person real,
My eyes, prove what I don't feel,
Laughter cannot make them crinkle,
Love never makes them shine,
Joy doesn't bring the jolly twinkle.

The eyes mirror for the inside,
My eyes, help weakness to hide,
Whatever weakness is left,
Not locked up in steel,
Feelings my heart bereft.

The eyes are made to look at,
My eyes, human qualities lack,
And all you'll see is you,
There's no me,
And I'm scared too.
