He asked me why

by Melissa   Feb 15, 2007

Because
is simply not good enough for him
(or anyone, really)

Some things should be forever, I say
but like all the men I've ever loved
you'll probably just go
and leave me here with my poems
accepting defeat
crippled
from caring too much

My fingers (how sad they will be)
start their purging
by blotting out the empty kisses
with a pencil that erases time

You are not gone!

Not here in my world of words, my sweet man
we are alive,
together, and hungry for more

Some things should be forever,
wouldn't you say?

Some things should be forever, like the timelessness of your poetry. Beautifully done!

    I loved that!
Only one thing..."my sweet man" seems a little out of context...I mean it sounds like a cliched phrase in the middle of a stunning poem...
