Tears of Pride

by Ixora   Mar 4, 2007

He held you in his arms one day
and he said those words to you
those words you hated so much to hear
because then you knew you were through

you remind yourself you cant believe them
no matter how tempting they are
you're safe here in your little corner
and you dare not stray so far

and your eyes swelled up with tears
but you couldn't let them by
you swallowed and pushed him away
and told him its time to say goodbye

now the boy who dried your tears
is crying all the time
writing about you in every letter
on every word of every rhyme

and you turn away when he comes
and look down when he sees
ignore him when he speaks
and push him off his knees

Each time the tears swell up
and each time you hold them in
knowing it was always a weakness
to show whats hidden within

graduation day came
and the pain was still harder to take
he was still trying to get you back
and you wonder if you had made a mistake

but the pride comes in the way
you cant show any loss
and one day his car ran off the road
just as you looked across

running down the steep slope
and falling on the ice
you must have broken something
before your steps would finally suffice

your breath caught in your lungs
as you saw him lying broken
and regret filled up inside
for all the words you left unspoken

and you curse yourself for letting go
you should have at least tried
you curse the world and hold him in your arms
crying your tears of pride
