All Lost So Much

by Jemma   Mar 19, 2007

You've felt the bittersweet
Brief taste of a memory
But we have to draw ourselves away
From the lure of that past
Of the world we used to live in
Before it changed

The weathe's been cloudy
So pearlescent were my tears
That filled the sky
But we have to draw away
From the tempting fire
So attuned to our needs
To keep us warm

You spend the nights writhing
In the bed sheets in the ward
We all have bad dreams
Some are worse than others
Some can plague the imagination
But everything can change

We need to start looking around
At the way things are
The way of the world
The way of you and I
Before we forget who we are supposed to be
And let our masks fall to the floor
In mistaken celebration
Of a freedom we have yet to gain

We all have our dreams
Of walking across golden sands
To rest our head on the feathers
Of the bird that will grant us peace
And in peace shall we achieve love?
For is that not what we yearn for
So much that our hearts cry out
In anguish as they are denied

Our opportunities are things we buried
In a coffin, with the nails plunged
Into the rotting wood
And we sell ourselves to the sea
To float in remembrance of that dream
Before we, and it, drift away
The times when we could laugh and play
Like the children our hearts would have us be
Have gone
Long since vanished into the mists
That time keeps awarding us
Things are different now

We stand still, with out faces dirty
Red from our exertion
We have had to lose such childish play
As our minds have aged, and our dreams withered
And the eyes that have seen so much
Must endure the will of decay

Can we afford to take into our hearts
The sanctuary to hide away?
A place where cannot grow old
And in foolish play
Can waste our days away

It's so easy to remember when
We just need to take a hold on those memories
And apply a leash
So that they do not intrude on responsibility
We let our learned morals fade to black
In the shadows of the modern day

No time to ponder the ifs
That have leapt into our minds
What should have been?
What could have been?
If the world had changed
And it has changed
But it only gets worse
And the people only get worse
And our dreams get battered
And the battles are fought
And whoever the victor
We have all lost so much

The weather has been stormy
The clouds gathering above our eyes
And the glistening tears fill the sky
As the world mourns
Of the unfilled aspirations
The loss of our souls

Waiting for the sun to fill the sky
And carry us away into a new tomorrow
In an old world

    .......VERY effective.......very deep and meaningful......

I hope you don't mind a candid and personal response here to this depth of yours...:
We Must Strive On....toward Willfully and Humbly creating, with our Spiritual Imaginations, a New Time in New Lives....We Will Be Back.........As We Think So We Become.......There is no limit on the possibilities of active Goodness and High-Minded, Non-Judgemental Morality and Service to the suffering (ours and others)......We cannot change the past But....we Can forge the future....The Fact of Karma is a virtual invitation to co-creation....We really will be back.....
Your poem inspired this waterfall of words.....as you know, I do appreciate your writing..;-)
