I Think I Lost My Head

by Jess Lynn   Apr 12, 2007

I fell asleep last night
Right there on the bed
And woke up this morning
With absolutely no head.

I tried to find it
But I had no eyes.
So my flailing around
Were all useless tries.

I tried to think where I'd lost it
But no success there.
Because my brain was in my skull
Just under my hair.

Wait, I think I found it
Right there in the glass.
A slight, lingering glimpse
As I start to pass.

There it is, that tricky head
Right atop my shoulders.
That's mine alright, my nose, my eyes
Even my shiny white molars.

A flap of cloth drew across my face
A sleeping mask I had on when I went to bed.
It must have helped someone my precious brain
Because I'm sure that last night, I lost my head.

Encore! Encore! I was reading some Shel Silverstein and Spike Milligan poems the other day, and this is easily as good as some of their work. Very enjoyable.
