Dreams are Lies and Wishes are Fake

The candle in the window,
Reminds me of my promise,
My promise to never fail,
The promise I made,
10 long years in the past.

I made that promise,
With a single wish,
The wish that we will reunite,
And be able to live in peace,
To forgive and forget,
All our troubles we once had.

The promise that I made,
Was that of life and death,
If they let my poor friend live,
I was to die when ten years came to pass.

My friend, you cried,
When I told you the price,
To save your life,
I was the sacrifice.

I wished that time,
Would seize to exist,
And that I could live,
Just those few hours in bliss,
With you by my side,
A happy sight,
For a pair of sore eyes.

I have learned though,
That wishes don’t come true,
Dreams are lies,
To fill our heads until we die.

The dream to live,
And be happy with you,
Was just that,
A dream and no more.

If wishes came true,
There would be no reason to cry,
But tears are flowing,
From both your beautiful eyes.

Do not worry though,
I died knowing you,
At least I did something,
To protect you,
The one dearest to me.

    When I read this poem, I cried! It's true! It was so beautiful and sad. It was wonderful though! I know it came from the heart and I believe it!

    What a sad poem. very emotive and vivid.i especially liked the stanzas
    "I have learned though,

    they make me think of a dream i used to have which also didin't come true.
    The only thing i can pick on in this poem is that the flow is a bit off in some lines.
    otherwise good write.
    Love is the law
    Love under will.
