Romance

by Sean Allen   Apr 23, 2004

There lies the beginning
In some strange and melancholy way.
We have become a wasteland,
Other considerations, they are artificial.
We were still crammed full;
Vague ideas which gave to life
An ideal and almost romantic character.
What if he were to open his mouth
And cry out? But he only weeps.
The front thunders, and I breathe.

One small note:
This poem was written in my English class, and in reality was co-written by Tyler Wilson and Evan Hembacher. This is a Found poem, and all the words were pasted together from the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque.

    It's very confusing what it's actually saying, to be quite honest.

    Hmm, I was about to comment on the language of this poem. Then read you wrote it in English class, that is a definite connection. I haven't read that novel, it sounds interesting. Another well done poem.
