On the high bridge

by Independence Forever   Aug 9, 2007

A high bridge, dusk settles onto the city's crowns
two lovers, both of them standing wearing frowns

a cool breeze, darkness silently sets in
from life's struggle they wouldn't win

war machines break the calm silence
the man's comm shrieks in loud defiance

a quick kiss, and a long embrace
and then off to war's deadly race

they separate, looking for a chance
hoping for another small, slow dance

the comm blares, their commander is needed
he must acquiesce, their plea should be heeded

war is his mistress now, he must protect her
so that they can be safe, before war did stir

a sad reflection, no looking back
an epiphany, into memory's pack

a hard decision, eyes forward soldier dear
where will life take you? where does it steer?
