Forget My Soldier

Years ago you went away,
You were called in for war.
I cried when you told me goodbye,
But you swore you'd return.
Years later I still wait for you,
Constantly denying the painful truth.
My heart starts to ache when I think of you,
I cry in my sleep when I dream of you.
Even if you've been gone,
It's like your spirit never left.
I just can't get you out of my head,
I see you everywhere I go.
I love you so much,
I truly do, with all my heart,
But now it's time to put you behind me,
It's time to move on.
I'm tired of only having you in my thoughts,
I long for you beside me in bed.
Everyday I read our old love letters,
I know every single one by heart.
I have to stop this now,
I need to lock them anyway forever.
In order to move on,
I must forget about you completely.
I shall never speak your name again,
That word will no longer cross these lips.
I'm going to ignore my thoughts of you,
Over look every one of our wonderful memories,
Force myself awake when I see you in my dreams..
All remembering you does is cause me pain,
And remind me of the fact that I'll always love you.
I'll try to stop missing your smile,
The way you laugh,
And the way you made everything okay.
I'll also try to forget about your silly habits,
And the feeling I got when I felt your touch.
I just can't wait anymore baby,
This is what's best for both of us,

A year later...
I am happy once again.
I found a guy and fell in love,
He is almost as perfect as you.
There was a knock at the door,
When I opened it,
My world came crashing down..
Because standing right in front of me,
Was my life,
