ever so sweet
topped off with the breath of a kiss
sing loud enough to divide
his soul from yours
a kiss will only last
as long as a song
eyes will water down
the promise to reveal the truth
used, again and again
until you're as fragile
as the stuffed animal
that you hold through
the nights that made
their mark
finger prints pressed
upon the heart
form a bruise
tender, and yet willing
to search for what was once lost
