Unfortunately Untitled.

My home is the cabin that no longer stands,
on the edge of that watery stream.
My heart still resides in the brown saddle straps,
that big black horse and cherry tree.

An old yellow ribbon, still caught in the winds
is floating with the leaves of the yard.
But it cannot go beyond the boundary of fence,
for it's tied to my old battle scars.

When dad would remedy his pain with a drink,
his heartache evolved into rage.
I'd watch from the corner, by the worn out old stair
Cried as I saw the war brought to stage.

Tears from mother's eyes were forever concealed,
her strength had never faded away.
She'd rock me to sleep, after one nightmare gone
She said dreams always keep me safe.

But one morning I'd wake, to find Mom's hands cold.
With a tear stained below blue eyes.
I held her and promised that I'd never leave,
And with me, her memory survives.

Really old one. Not sure what inspired it.

A trully wonderful and sad poem. The rhythmn was outstanding and the imagery quite unique. I could picture an old farm house with a rotten windmill in the distance.

"An old yellow ribbon, still caught in the winds
is floating with the leaves of the yard.
But it cannot go beyond the boundary of fence,
for it's tied to my old battle scars."

My favorite lines [stanza]. Excellent choice of words.

    Always,
