Epiphany

by Ixora   Nov 21, 2007

It glances at you through hooded eyes
and imagines your mirage is real
smiles at someone long since dead
watches the world become unreal

in the darkness it glances up
and a snowflake falls to ground
a teardrop follows in its path
but never makes a sound

and it glances to the left
and again to the right
hoping someone will come
fearing that they might

shuffling its feet through the snow
it knows the journey continues
but never does it complain
just keeps walking in their shoes

shivers came and then the blue
until finally it numbs
beyond the will of the body
to the snow it succumbs

but how sadly it laughed
as the sky met its eyes
though crippling the pain was
and deafening the cries

it laid there in its anguish
becoming a part of the white debris
knowing it should be afraid
knowing it never would be

just before its eyes glazed
a white crow flew by its side
it said only one sentence
before it laid down and died

"peace will come one day
but your god never will"
and there in the drifting, winter snow
the scar less mind suddenly became still
