It's Not Supposed to Go Like That

He had a steady job and built a fine home
A place to build memories of their own
Just starting off, and ready to go
High on a love that was hard not to show
He was off to work with a goodbye kiss
One of many things she'd grow to miss
THe light turned green so he went on
When the other car hit he was long gone
Lights were flashing. The car was a mess.
Officers tested the other driver's breath.
He was wasted and it was just 8 A.M.
Last time he'll touch alcohol again.
She got a call about eight forty-five
It put such a hault on the rest of her life.
She'd been planning a special date
For their first anniversary to celebrate
Later on she would cry even more
When the flowers he ordered shoed up at her door.
Life's not a fairytale. You can't turn time back.
But even I feel, it's not supposed to go like that.
