There Is A Child

by Allison   Dec 26, 2007

There is a child
That no one cares for
Every day he sits alone.
Lonely, scared, terrified
By himself on the floor.

There is a child
Who feels pain every day
Fists strike her skin.
Falling, crying, aching
Fear makes her stay.

There is a child
Alone on the streets
Living off spare change.
Desperate, hungry, cold
Lucky if he eats.

There is a child
Sick, with no hope
Each day suffers more.
Dying, suffering, hopeless
Sometimes barely able to cope.

There is a child
That no one wanted
Now she waits for a chance.
Loveless, alone, waiting
Wonders why she is unwanted.

There is a world
Filled with tears and cries
Of children looking.
For love, a home, a chance
Yet so many have blind eyes.

There is a chance
If we can only give
Give love forward.
And hope, a prayer, a home
Then we help those children live.

I like it. It took me a bit of time to get used to the rhythm, but once I did, I quite liked it, and the meaning of the poem itself was also rather good and done well.
