Song of Allison

by Allison   Dec 27, 2007

I am the musician of my life, and its melody
I am the gentle chime of holiday bells which motivates me
Rise and fall from pitch to pitch
Or as crickets performing in the midst of a summer night
Serenading nature with their stories of life

Strong and opinionated I remain,
Through the divorce of those I love, exploring a new school, a death
I never lose sight of who I truly am

My father, my inspirer, tells me to follow my dreams
He encourages me to soar on; allow nothing to restrain me
Starry skies are my motivation
Their endlessness represents my possibilities, my hopes, my dreams

Memories have created who I am
The brittleness of pressed flowers in the summer heat
The smell of nutmeg in the fall
Memories have taught me what to love
Soft dog fur against my cheek
A bundle of joy cradled in my arms
God has shown me who I should be become

I have learned to love myself
Accept who I am and believe in myself
At moments I have doubted myself

At moments hardships were at my side
Yet optimism and love have always seen me through.

A path has been laid behind me
I am uncertain of what lies ahead
Many thing I have learned, but I am unwise to all
The road I drive is hidden behind fog.
But I plunge in without regretting where I've been
I am the conductor of my symphony,
I am the unwritten lyrics.

[this poem was an assignment for my American Literature class. it had to be free verse, and we had to incorporate sensory items, parallelism and cataloging]
