You've Taken My Reins

by Paige Lea   Jan 8, 2008

I will drive a carriage
But I'll also be inside,
I'll pick a different path to go
Then, offer you a ride.

We'll laugh about, oh, different things,
Our visages scarlet red.
We'll talk about old memories.
Remember old things said.

I'll tell you about the time you said
That you'd always be near.
About the time you killed my heart -
Something you won't want to hear.

You'll tell me that you're hurting,
That you're lost, confused and sad.
You'll tell me of your shattered heart,
And it will make me mad.

And then we'll realize that even tho
For long, we've been apart,
We've both got the pieces to
Eachother's broken heart.

But even tho I'll want to try
To put them back again,
You will stay right where you are,
Forcing me to be where I've been.

I cannot even begin to explain -
Nothing will ever beat -
How I wish I didn't have a driver
Sitting in my back seat.

Because on this ride, that I devised,
The reins have left my hand,
You've taken them and you're steering away
From a happier land.
