One Foot On the Pedestal

by MyEscape   Jan 8, 2008

Used to be so innocent
Naive, and young at heart
Time kept nagging at me
Until it broke me apart.

No one ever questioned me
Or doubted my decisions
Now, I see their mistrust
Blurred by faulty actions

Forgiveness came with consequence
A most haunting thing
Those who believed in you
Can't believe in anything

I know the trust is there
Holding on with Elmer's glue
Maybe I'm the one who lingers
In the past I'm looking to.

They built me a pedestal
Told me to take a firm stand
I tried so hard to warn them
But it took my fall to understand

Some time has now elapsed
And the ground is getting steady
This time I want to be sure
That whatever comes, I'm ready

One foot on the pedestal
And one foot on the ground
It's better if I don't fall
This ensures I'm safe and sound.

I beg you not to hold me high
Keep in mind my imperfections
This time you need to see me
Through eyes of clearer vision.

Interesting poem. It is nice, you expressed emotions with great pictures that created vivid imagery in my mind. I don't like rhyming too much and I think that you could create even more powerful atmosphere with use of some more metaphors. That is just my opinion and I don't want to offend you. This poem is good.
