I have to ask this question.
Why do people take up doing drugs?
I understand that people get depressed or stressed or whatever, resulting in the habit.But there are other coping methods. I also know that peer pressure can play a part to, but cant people just be strong and resist?
I mean, forgive me for moaning, but it doesnt just effect them, it effects others too.
It just really p*sses me off how dependant and addicted (and in some cases violent)people become, especially when theyre close to you.
Anyone else have this problem, or even do it yourself?
I wont judge (I dont even know any of you) I just want to see another viewpoint about this subject.

i feel there is a difference between being a drug addict and doing or trying drugs. I feel its your choice as an adult to what you do and what you dont do. i think doing a drug ONCE IN A WHILE for recreation perfectly fine but if you make a habit out of it it will screw up your life. I also hate it when people are so against drugs like pot yet they drink. Alochol is a very dangerous drug and just because it is legal doesnt make it any better for you. Alochol in many ways is far more dangerous then marijuana.

People Use Drugs To Make Them Feel Better Or Put Them On a High, Then They Become Addicted To It, And Their Body Becomes Dependant Upon It, Thats When It Becomes a Big Problem, My Brother Has This Problem As Well, And So Does Several Of My Ex's xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

they make you feel better and happyer, you can forgett everything, its bliss. i no this is the wrong way to look at life but , you only have one life so you should try and be as happy as you can so if taking drugs makes you happy why stop?also you all die in the end so in the long run it dosnt really matter.

Well I love playing devil's advocate... So I'm sorry 'me' but I have one question to ask you... You said 'you only have one life, so why not live it happily' (or something along those lines) and I was wondering... If you only have one life, why waste it away on drugs, when you can be happier some other way? When you can fall in love, with someone and that person will be your whole world. That person will give you a reason to live, and to live happilly... Or when you can fall in love with a place -Travel the world, and see what this one life of yours has to offer. Experience things that not everyone can. And no matter when you die, you can honestly say 'I've had a good run, and I'm happy with the choices I made.'

if you have one life to live why cut it short by ODing, plus most addicts don't live happily. once you're addicted (really addicted) you rarely have fun or are happy. being addicted fucks up your life at the time and every relationship you have with people.

I agree that drugs do fuck up addicts lives, once theyre properly addicted. I dont take drugs, but Im still affected. It doesnt just affect the one person who takes it, but those around them too.

Someone said this, I dont remember who, but if people can be happy without drugs, and yes, different things makes people happy, but they dont have to resort to using repeatedly, substances that fuck up your mind to find even just a bit of joy.

I for one have been taking a presciption drug for over a year and often ask myself if I am addicted. The answer is no, but I can easily see how someone in my position would be.
Anytime I start questioning my dependancy I stop taking the meds for a period of time. This has gotten me into several deep "conversations" with my doc, but oh well.
For others, yes it hurts everyone near them. I had to watch my brother choose drugs over his family and it hurt like hell. The sad part is that he still has not learned. After servinv time in prison and losing his own children he is right back on the same stuff that costed him everything.
Simply put, I do not know why they choose drugs... maybe for some they see it as the only way to live.

drugs will mess you up. it doesnt only effect you but it also affects the people around you. and alot of times its not a happy ending.

im an addict, ive been to a treatment center and have been doing really well with not doing it with the help and support of my family and my boyfriend. But i will always be an addict. Pot was my main drug, ive tried heroin and meth and coke. I guess it just made life more interesting. I actully dont know why i did it, in the beginng to get my sister to like me but after she quit i kept doing it, Its a great great feeling but not worth the pain you cause yourself and others but its so hard to quit harder then you can imagine

I personally don't do drugs (mum thinks I do though) but I have alot of friends who do drugs. They have never pressured me into trying it, and I have never felt compelled to try them, even though I'm always depressed

♥ alot of people do drugs because it helps them relax and to escape the "real" world i personally smoke weed b/c it helps me sleep. people do drugs for alot of different resaons but these are the main ones in my opion

drugs will mess up your mind if you let them. Moderation is the key.....it also helps if you dont have an addictive personlity

Prisons, clinics and cemeteries are full of stupid people who have allowed drugs to ruin their lives. In reality it is not chemicals that are the problem. It is the abuse of chemicals. Clinics dispense drugs legally, drugs are easily obtained in prisons, and innocent people are in early graves due to drug abuse. Most of these stupid people are somehow grateful that there are stupid people like me that still care, and believe there is hope

drugs are used by people that either

1. Think everybody is doing it so they want to be cool, but in reality i think it's only like 10% of the population that does drugs

2. They are soo depressed that they think drugs will solve their problems, but it only ends up making it worse.

This is something I am very passionate on and my favorite of my poems is about my father ruining his life b/c of drugs.

Like the politicians who make up the rules, how can you comment on something you only know objectively... drugs can be bad for sure but as was mentioned earlier, we've been taking drugs for as long as we discovered them, and to quote the wonderful Bill Hicks... 'if you're down on drugs go and burn your record collection, most of which were made by people out of their heads.' It's not drugs that suck, it's the ignorance around drugs.
You all take drugs, even if you just drink water, which now has so many additives in that it's almost poison!
Certain drugs give a different perspective on what is considered reality.
Don't criticise what you don't know about first hand. So what if drugs kill, life kills, we all die sometime, and no one has the right to tell another how to live their life - whatever!
You may all think I'm a raging drug addict from this, well I'm not. I just believe in what is right for one may be wrong for another, but it's up to each to make up their own mind and not just believe what some politician wants us to believe.
If the money that was put into the so-called drugs war was put into feeding the starving, there wouldn't be anyone without food... think about it, it's a war that will NEVER be won!

Well once they first start drugs they can's stop. As they take more the ones they do get too weak and they have to get a stronger one. Trust me I talk to a lot of drug addicts during school and dude i'm in intermediate. I'm doing an article about drugs too for a magazine.

Hmm, trust me I'm a counsellor and I have given talks on drug education in the past. Good luck with the article.

I am an addict.

I was a Coca Cola and Pepsi fiend, if it finished I would run like hell to get more.

But then I knew I had a problem, so instead of drinking it, I started drinking water. Ever so slowly

Like:

Day 1= 1 glass of water
Day 5= 1 and a half
Day 12= 2 glasses of water

By the end of it. I am drinking 6 glasses and I am kicking the habit of coca- cola...Lol.

Thanks physmon! I need it cause I have to find out about different things from different people. I'm addicted to ice drops. I drank like a fifth of the bottle at once one time and I couldn't walk straight.
