Alright this really pisses me off! I've been noticing that ALOT of people are using the word "gay" to say something is stupid or dumb or shitty

GAY..........is NOT a synonym for shi**y! if you want to call something stupid, dumb, shitty ect USE THOSE WORDS!!

I agree with you. I really hate it when people say, "That's so gay!" or "You're gay!". Very disrespectful.

Most people that use it as a synonym for stupid or something else insulting don't really realize it sometimes...

Actually, most of the time it's people who caught it on from there siblings.

OMG OMG! I am sooooo glad you posted this thread!! I am a.....cough...victim of this!!! I say gay alllll the time!!!! "That is so gay!" This is how me and my brother greet each other "Hi queer!"..."Hi Fag!"..we quite enjoy it its how we show love but I'm glad you brought it to my attention because I really want to stop.....5 days ago I was joking with my friend and I said "Uhhh don't be so gay!"...he just recently told me he's Bi! It's immaturity amoung teens.... Most of them realize sooner or later and out grow it..... you don't exactly see a 50 year old man/women saying "OMG THATS SOOO GAY!" People think it's cool.... and theres really no stopping them until they finally realize they're being childish. My best guy friend who IS gay... says things like "thats gay" all the time. Don't ask me why but he does! In Agi class the other day everyone says "thats sooo gay" and they're all really mean about homosexuality and he made a HUGE sign that says "Homophobia is gay." He's relaized that when most people say things like that they're not usually trying to use it against homo's but merrily as a over used childish term. He says hes comfortable with who he is and he knows deep down in his heart that he isn't strange or anything.

i for one i'm tired of people posting this topic up, i say gay all the time and i do not mean it in a bad way to gay's my brother is gay and he says it all the time. people dont mean it in any way to be disrespectful to gay's its just another way to say thats dumb or bad, and might i add that gay used to mean happy not that you like the same sex so isnt that the same we changed gay happy to gay as in you like the same sex so...

yah so i'm gay and i really don't have a problem with people saying that something is gay like i even say it 2 and bassically i think it derived from people thinking that homosexuality is stupid so the 2 become synomenes (sp) in the one word gay. i personaly have no problem...and technicaly its my vote that counts...cause im the one REALLY affected by it. but if you don't like people saying it thas cool

Well, actually a lot of people care that it's disrespectful.

They're using a sexuality as an insult.

I say "That is so gay!" "You are so gay!" and other variations, but not as an insult. more like, if the shoe fits...if it's camp, and happy, 80s, broadway, and the ultimatum of pure cheese, it's gay!

also, if you are just behaving in general homosexual behavior..that's gay.

also, my mom's 54 and she says 'gay' all the time. but she's one of those 'cool' moms who hangs out with the kids.

I understand where you all are coming from but even though alot of people don't have a problem with it, I know a few people who are gay and find it very disrestpectful...My friend once said to me

"well what if we started saying 'well that's black' instead of gay, there would be a reaction just like there is now".....well something like that.

Anyway I'll admit I used to say it ALL THE TIME. but then someone who I admire very much talked about it and it just kind of made me think about it so yeah I just thought I would say something about it.

Treat others as you wish to be treated . . . very well. There are no logical arguments against 'Gay' people, homosexuals. If anyone can think of one against, I would be more than happy to find an argument that contradicts it straight away. I personally use the phrase 'Gay' to put down everyday things so much - but recently I'm trying really hard to change it - it's a very bad habit indeed - if anyone has any ideas to help me - I need a funny word to replace it with!!

^ What!! Sorry but this is so silly! How is it immature? It's just like saying, "oh my god!". When you say that you aren't literally saying it to god are you? It's just an expression!! The vicar at my church says it sometimes and he agrees it isn't disrespectful - it's just an expression *duh*. Same with saying something is gay.

Just because you say it doesnt mean you are immature or childish. Almost everyone says something like that even if it isnt "OMG thats gay" or something like that. When people say that, they are not trying to offend homosexuals. They shouldnt even be offended. They know what people mean when they say it.

um, would this be a bad time to mention that on occasion I have also said, "That is so black!" or "ghetto" or "You've ghettoed that." or "That is so Asian!" or "That is so Jewish!" or redneck, or really any stereotype that may work for any current object, trait, or situation.?

and yeah, I've played that "That's straight!" card too.

of course there is a time and place and certain people to be around when you say any of the above. the black ones I've learned to only say around my white supremicist brother and his friends. and really down to earth black people I know well..who know me well enough..

People, there is more then one meaning to the word "Gay" it does not only mean "Homosexual" but it means happy, there for in using it to describe like saying "I had a gay time." is not disrespectful. So everytime someone says something about the word "gay" it is not always an insult.
