Whispers and lies

by Beauty In The Breaking   Jul 22, 2008

Whispers as I walk down the street,
knowing glances thrown my way,
stories and rumors passed from mouth to mouth
about this girl that nobody truly knows
and yet all of them think they do.

You think you know my darkest thoughts,
the things I think and feel,
you think you know the secrets of my heart
or all the things I do,
you think you truly know me.

Dark glances and whispers and cars pulling over
"Don't you know who you just talked to?"
stupid people and their stupid lies,
people ruining lives to make themselves feel better,
is this what you call real life?

People passing themselves off as friends
only to misuse your trust
and a chance to hurt you deeper,
you actually ask for a second chance? ha

Nothing new under that sun
history just repeats itself
until us humans learn,
kinda sounds hopeless doesn't it?

Treat everyone the way you want treated,
forgive more then you should
and be kinder then you need to
but give second chances only
to the ones that have proven to deserve it.

Rumors, slander, gossip and lies
peoples lives and the heartaches they've known
the latest stories to entertain
and people wonder why the world has problems.

Great opening stanza, and I think a lot of people can relate to what you wrote. Everyone thinks they know you so well and all but they really don't. This poem is wonderful, it has a great message and shows what really goes on in the world today. Nicely written.
