Are you gone, are you only sleeping?
Are you lost, or are you only dreaming?
I held you close, listening to your breathing
And so now I ask, are you gone, or are you sleeping?

The light began to dance and we mirrored its celebration
With each kiss we reeled in revelation
Our clumsied minds were halted by such feeling
But now it's gone; I pray that you are only sleeping

You sang so well, an angel's soft cantation
My ears alight, lulled to peace by the sensation
I heard a laugh; it drew close its hasty comrade
And so we dwelt in our smiles as we played

Is time my anchor; is time my salvation?
Each beating heart is just another of fascination
I closed your eyes, and your smile teased my heart
Now it's gone, and your shuttered eyes have lost their spark

Are you gone, or are you only sleeping?
Are you still mine, or has my soul been cheated?
My eyes are firm, determined to revive
The fire that I once saw prancing in your eyes

I heard your words; they left me burning
The veil was lifted as you started turning
So pure a face in my blinkered vision
No greater beauty can I, or shall I, ever envision

Your words spoke a truth; they scorched the dust
I love you still and will forever as I must
I see no sign of dreams so enchanting
Enticing you to the land of lullaby chanting

But you're so still, so quiet in your daze
I know this darkened scene will haunt my days
For as I look I know that you're not sleeping
I hear no heart but mine and it's weeping.
