City of Death

by Maple Tree   Feb 20, 2012

Hypnotized by street lights, I breathe springtime
eyes fixed upon dirty streets, laced with fallen addicts
planting season shall arise, newborns will croon a tune
smelling sweet as cheesecake at Manny's down the road.

Bleecker street has a haunting feeling, "the business" cries
wondering how many bodies whisper among-st flowerbeds
the roses will keep a skeletons secret, fear of being pruned
before the last petal falls, one prick to the fool, thorn of redemption.

I wish for stars to fall, erase this dirty, foul city's darkness
however the big boys own the red lights, soil is filled with death
It would take a billion roses to cover the stench and sorrow
and Manny's burned to the ground this past winter.

I turned to the sun and shared my feelings of despair
yearning to feel the silkiness of a petunias petal
sunshine replied with great compassion, "walk away sister"
allow the moon to devour the demons, this city Is a corpse In a box....

I feel like I've been given a map and placed within the city you speak of. It was SO vivid and intense, it truly made me feel as if I knew exactly the places you were describing. So descriptive, something you rock at.

"allow the moon to devour the demons, "

This is beautfiul. Ahh it just made sense to me! I adore this.

Your the best in portraying thoughts through nature. A lovely and intoxicating piece, fantastic and clear imagery. Telling in summary the ills that happens in the vicinity. In as much as you wish to stay in the environs, nature says no because its been stained with murder and nasty happenings. I love how deep the words get into one. I admire your writing prowess. Take care, blessings to you dear. Cheers! :)
