My poetry is made of...

by Yakari Gabriel   May 14, 2012

I know many creatures
who do not sleep well at night.
I myself am one of them.

My mind is at its brightest,
on the darkest hours of the day.

maybe its because,
that's what my poetry is made of.

out of this darkness,
which lives inside, less like a dream
more like a memory.
something I can only look back to, but never expand.
something that makes me weep,
but I can't replace.

my poetry is composed of moments
I have stitched together, like a
wound that was too big for a bandaid
but too small for needles.

made of laughter too, but
only sometimes. when life
treats me like men should
treat women.

my poetry is weak for
nostalgia, that's when she turns
to Shekinah. asking her to
for that hope. the one who's solely
meant to soothe spirits, but never change them.

my poetry is..its so many things.
its mine, but it is never me,
for I,
will never be quite as beautiful.

Yaki!!!! That was a mighty fine piece of poetry, girl!!!

I loved the originality and your creative streak ran wild here, it just had all the makings of a masterpiece,
The metaphors, the smooth flawless flow, the emotions, the feelings, the mind provoking language, you just wrote something beyond amazing

and your poetry is beautiful, like you, even more so that you don't always believe it...

Wow that was a really great piece, it held moments and emotions of poetry. . . . it was nicely penned.

    maybe its because,
that's what my poetry is made of.

    out of this darkness,

^^ I like this part as it reminds me of the quoe of my profile "sometimes the truth is dark but darkness sparks the truest art". . . .again, nicely penned poem, sad ending line though. . . . . this poem was different to read but I loved it. nice work on this poem

I loved all your thoughts here, they were so beautiful, poetry may mean something different to each person, and here there are many many moments that are stitched together as you said. I can understand the darkness part, how a part of you wakes up then and is who you are. It's the time for you to be you and be that shining. Your ending line was really creative- thoughtful definitely, sometimes what we compose may hold that truth that we can't find in ourselves, however I think your poetry is always beautiful as you are too :)

Wonderful write, loved reading the unique thoughts and what it invoked in me when you gave me the chance to think about poetry & what it is made of.

    Take care!

    Hi Yak
I love poetry about poetry, I was reading and I'm like yes...I'm feelin this and adored this stanza is all its truth:

my poetry is composed of moments
I have stitched together, like a
wound that was too big for a bandaid
    but too small for needles.

Awesome way to describe your poems..but then I went on reading and this POPPED into your poem:

    Shekinah.

I'm glad you went on to explain what she is otherwise..I will have to read up on her.

    Your ending was awesome

my poetry is..its so many things.
its mine, but it is never me,
    for I,
will never be quite as beautiful.

Indeed your poetry is beautiful, Yaki. Your poetry is awesome :) It always shines!
