You are German Chocolate

yet I am
American ambiguity.

Everyone knows what to call you,
what names to give you when
they drown you in flying
tongues...

(why can't I form a pattern
of saying you are just
an edible?)

Why must I find compositions in you
when all you do is sit in
cool closets and make me
wonder why I'm simple
with my ardor.

For my love is contrary
to the unfaithfulness others
hold when mirroring you
in a spoon...

won't you tell me
that it's possible to be
closer, without the final
conclusion my mouth
contrives?

Though I know I must wash
away your breath
with something to make me

forget.

*Mom and I ran out to the store to get a cake this late at night, so I really wanted to write about my love for this cake :)

When I read the note at the bottom it made me giggle a bit and when I read britt's and everyone's comments I laughed lol

I wonder if I was the only one who took it literal.. I mean when I started reading this piece, I took it literal, and everytime more I kept taking it more literal. Meaning that I really thought you were talking about the chocolate lol, and I was craving some chocolate. I haven't tried this type of cake but I do like chocolate cakes.

but you know, if I did run to the store at that time to get a cake, my mom would say that I'm crazy lol

however, I do understand the feeling behind this piece. It's well written. and I can relate. Chocolate cake.. and milk..hhmm..

I agree this is beyond creative. I thought it was speaking of a life lesson or something, how we shouldn't judge others for their skin color. Definitely love this poem even more since there is quite a few ways to interpret it. But as I read the bottom of the poem it's literally about a German chocolate cake.. and yess they are soo good! Love love this!

    MaryAnne,

I want to nominate this! it's so creative. I'd never be able to write a poem about cake yet here you are doing it so wonderfully. Like Britt at first I thought this was a love poem to a German man! haha, I was like wow when did MaryAnne meet someone from Germany!?

I've never had german chocolate cake but sounds delicious from what I can see. I honestly can't pick a favourite part but to be honest the opening lines were amazing simply because of the contradicting images you presented (especially since I thought it was a German man and an American woman)

Nice work making my mouth water!

HAHAHAHA OMG. MA this is funny, if you hadn't written the snippet at the end I totally would've thought you used this as a metaphor and talking about some yummy German man, lmao.

I really liked this and now I can't stop laughing! How funny. I don't like German Chocolate cake (not a fan of coconut) but this has me wanting some. You crazy woman you.
