Iris

by ghosts in bloom   Jan 18, 2013

Day stands atop its head
plum-faced and emasculated,
weaving threads of grief
through fissures in my memory

softly, the wind hiccups,
drunk with such reverie
while light drips off skin
like a waxy metaphor
gliding along your
brittle, erect bones;

those little white lies
who settle in corners of lips,
smiling wide and oblivious,
stuffed on buffets of misfortune

and yet...

eight letters tremble
in a tenor vibrato
afloat by sleeping tides;
rhythmic lullabies
who lull the clock to halt

where language, shaking,
rests atop my swollen tongue
skipping stones and storms,
tripping over misplaced vowels

oh, those eight letters
a whispered heartbeat,
only bled, never uttered,
in yesterday's honor

I carry these words
while she carries you

    How beautifully written this love poem was. It was extremely expressive with the poet's adjectives yet fascinating way to show the reader a bit of their thoughts. I was in wonder at the ending lines "I carry these words while she carries you", as if you love this person who is already with another, and you've never spoken the words but you know it to be true. I love the reality of your words, how they come alive with their own movement. I was longing for more to find out about this "you", it was mysterious. Uniquely crafted, I loved the precision in which you chose your words "the wind hiccups" and "afloat by sleeping tides". It is beautiful and makes me still ponder about if you are grieving this person or remembering them as they are now.

    :O I didn't know you were still here! I miss you <3 and I've missed reading your work, though I could never really explain through a comment how I feel about it. This was amazing, dear.. the ending made me feel sad though.
