Memories

by PETER EDWARDS   Mar 25, 2013

He's driving to work, it's pouring with rain
Thinks not of the road, but of 'her' again
Music plays a sad, sad song
He wonders, what did he do wrong?

Her hard heart finally won 'battle thru'
Broke his soft warm heart in two
Speeding cars ''flash'...'get out of the way!'
But he's buried in thoughts of yesterday

What he'd give to embrace her again
To free him of this mountain of pain
Can't free his mind of what 'used to be'
Her voice echos 'we'll always be..'

Remembers the 'first time' that warm Autumn day
No words were said as together they lay
Remembers her running to his warm open arms
'Thank God you're still here and come to no harm'
Remembers her eyes when Love once lived there
Her warm, warm smile, her face in 'love stare'

He wakes with a start, cars still speeding by
There's a gash in his heart and a tear in his eye
Those hard cruel words cut his soul in two
When she turned to him saying
'I no longer love you..'

His spirit now broken, trust all now but died
Bitterness growing where love did reside
Silently weeping, cries out 'Him above'
'Please God in her, put back that love?!'

But deep down he knows, Love's reached its end
And gone forever is his dear, dear friend...

(wrote this many years ago, some love pain!)

Very heartouching write Peter.... Loved the opening lines (they captured me straight away...)

So much emotion packed into this Gem.... that you have so well written.

    Well Done my friend!

~ Also have to say that I loved the rhyme and rhythm throughout! :)

My fav line was the one that said " His spirit now broken, trust all now but died. Bitterness growing where love did reside." That was one of those lines that makes a poem something memorable!
