Footprints in the February snow

by Beautiful Tragedy   Feb 18, 2015

I watch as you walk out the door, taking my heart with you.
I count your steps to your car
one.. two.. three...
and watch as you walk without looking back.
Four.. five.. six..
I take a deep breath in and cold air fills my lungs.
Seven.. eight.. nine..
I smile at your back, and look at you as my heart, once again swells with love for you.
Your footsteps leave footprints in the February snow,
They look like the footprints that walked all over my heart months ago.
And they are. They are the same footprints that were stomped all over my heart,
leaving beautiful footprints that left me dizzy and confused.
And completely and totally in love.
Ten.. eleven.. twelve...
You reach your car and I watch as you put your stuff in the trunk, and look up as you get in.
My heart skips a beat when I look at you, for you mean so much to me.
The thought of losing you kills me,
clenching at my heart like a child clenches a toy.
Love bounces between the two of us, and I lean against the wall.
Remembering every moment that I have ever had with you.
You are so beautiful.
I am so in love with you. I look at the ground one last time,
and smile at your footprints.
These footprints right here; the same footprints that walked all over my heart,
Are the footprints I see in the February snow.
And to me, they mean everything.

Woah tony, this poem is so old, but it’s also one of my favorites. I agree, it is heartbreaking, especially since it’s now a memory of someone I loved and lost.
      Bittersweet indeed
