Baggage

by Brenda   Nov 24, 2016

With every relationship
we take baggage with us...
Sometimes it's just
a cute clutch,
you know the one you take out
on date night...
Other times it's a
big ass tote,
you know the one with
wheels and stuff...
I figured by now
I'd have a matching set
of designer bags
to haul around my baggage in.
But alas that is not the case.
Years of bad choices
has resulted in a vast array
of mismatched weekenders,
totes, cardboard boxes,
laundry baskets,
hell, a garbage bag or two...
Relationships can be brutal.
No matter how cleanly
the break may be
we will always be hauling
around some baggage...

    Hi Brenda,
LOL. This is so true to life. I can relate to this as I can imagine so many can as well. I love how you related relationships to purses and "baggage" though. This is awesome. I thought the same as you, but alas, we make different decisions in real life than we imagine we will as young girls with big dreams and big imaginations. But, the beauty of life is we can choose to put that baggage down, leave it on the curb and walk away and find someone better as you and I both have. Wisdom comes with age doesn't it? I found this very enjoyable to read.

Thank you so much Mary! It is true we gain perspective with age. Some people never gain that though and still dragging a bunch of garbage bags behind them, lol. I greatly appreciate your kind comments.

Yeah.. ahaha. I normally just use boxes. They're so much easier.

You speak a harsh dose of truth. I've avoided relationships for so long, and starting to blossom into one now baggage is one of my main fears. As we react to physical pain (When we touch the hot burner on the stove that one time as a kid and know to never do it again), so we react to emotional pain (being betrayed, being hurt, falling too hard for someone who was not right).

    A great metaphorical piece. Wonderful!

Stephen, thank you! When I started looking into dating after my divorce I was terrified. Here I was, early 40's, 2 kids, not in the shape I was in my 20's. I hadn't dated in over 18 years. Talk about baggage lol! Then add in a horrible ending to a marriage, oh vey! Yeah, I had my share of totes with wheels...just saying. It's easy to not go into a relationship but if you never venture out you may miss out on the best thing that could ever happen to you. Mine is my husband and I have never been happier. Hugs to you! Venture forth!
