My grief

by Brenda   Mar 8, 2021

There may come
a day
that my heart
doesn't hemorrhage
grief...
Losing you now
I find
I can't breathe
these days...
Navigating a new landscape
without you
is simply more
then I can bear...
-
So my new companion
is my grief
for now...
It envelopes me
in a cloak
of pain-
my pain-
for my soul
to pour forth
until it empties out
and pools
at my feet...
-
I will never
stop missing you...
Little things
day to day
will be there
to let me know
you are never
far away...
I will hear you
call my name
in the early summer breeze
with the scent
of hydrangeas and roses
drifting through
an open window...
I will smile.
The balm to heal
the hole
your passing has left...
My grief
will start to heal...

This was written for a dear friend of mine who recently lost her father suddenly.

This really struck a chord with me as I lost my father to COVID just before christmas. A beautifully written piece with such wonderful imagery and a heartfelt message this captured my feelings of grief perfectly and I'm sure has meant such a lot to your friend.

Dear American mum, I hope you're doing well in the circumstances. The title gripped me, the imagery was astounding and just goes to show what a wonderful human this person was and how loved they were and how deeply missed they are. You captured this grief in such a way I've never seen. Sending all my love and strength to all the family and friends.
    Take care,
    Em. X

Thank you so much Em. My friend's grief was rolling off her in waves. It was almost visual, hence my words came.
