David

by CJ Maleney   Mar 13, 2017

Childhood friends who never once fought
From pre school to adult we never crossed swords.

Always the strongest of us with no need for a gym just natural muscle, Git. Yeah you were pretty awesome.

Our little group drifted apart, which is what happens, work and family see to that. I seen you occasion and you still looked strong and fit.

Then the call came

"David is dead"

"Cancer"

The first of us to go of natural causes if you can call that silent assassin natural.

Of all of us in shock for we now no we are not indestructible.

One word to break the silence

Glasses raised

."David"

Craig, this was an emotional write and though you may not think it's poetry, it is because to me poetry doesn't have to rhyme or be filled with metaphors, it has to move us and this moved me because you had grown up with this person as a lifelong friend, others probably came and went but David seemed to be a keeper but life and family got in the way so you probably didn't see each other that often but it's still like a kick in teeth when you get that phone call even when we know that none of us are invincible.
    Very emotional, Take care, Em
