Unwanted Treasure

by Maple Tree   Aug 14, 2017

Unwanted visions collect thoughts -

I file them away
under lock and key,
the shadows shall
remain nameless.

Dust filters my veins
preserving me for old age,
my bones will hold more weight
than one should carry.

Even in pages of poetry
there is secrets and lies,
the broken heart becomes
vulnerable, insanity shall
consume my very soul.

Yet I fight daily to speak
of the madness within
my treasure chest;

I've been chained far too long..

Judging comment: A poem that many writers can understand and feel on some level - we have these words and thoughts and feelings and desires buried deep in our hearts and minds and they just beg, ache to come out. I love the part about even in pages of poetry there is secrets and lies. I know that holds so true for me, what we wish we felt, what we wish we could heal, and even holding back the true despair we hold in our hands. This is a beautiful piece of art, one that is important to evaluate ourselves in.

Another effortless piece of dark and chilling free verse that, I believe, just about warrants a nomination... :)
