Insomnia

by Gwenyth Hill   Nov 23, 2017

My thoughts plague me
Force me to stay awake
No matter how hard I try
I close my eyes and wait

For something to kick in
Anything to make it stop
The mindless chatter within
Why won’t it just drop?

It drives me insane
The constant murmur
Of an overactive mind
The words getting firmer

With no set topic
Nothing that makes sense
Random pieces of information
That keep me on the fence

Between reality and dreaming
A barrier I just want to cross
But I can’t and it’s so frustrating
So I just lie there and toss

Turning over and over
thoughts in my mind
And it just won’t stop
It’s an endless grind

You have captured insomnia very well. As a fellow sufferer I believe that it is that some peoples minds just work over time all of the time. I find doing something like Classic words free app takes my mind off of what I'm thinking and wears me out or failing that watching boring tv until I fall asleep lol. Best wishes Milly x

Ah Gwenyth, I can so relate to this! Insomnia and the resulting exhaustion are so hard to deal with! On the plus side, I think without it I wouldn't have read so much in my life!
    Fab poem x
