Blind Tourist

by CJ Maleney   Mar 4, 2018

I've traveled many lands,
I have seen what most will not.
They travel seeing nothing,
In a fog of booze forgot!

Such a waste of eyes!
Your vision truly lost,
Slam another shot down your throat.
Let your body pay the cost!

Cover all this distance,
Just to party and get pissed?
Halfway across the globe!
My god just what you have missed?

All the culture that you could see!
All history forgone and forgotten
You forget the beginning of us all,
What transpires tainted and rotten!

Hey its just a gap year or holiday.
That your mum or dad will fund.
But you are despised by the locals,
Without money you'd be shunned.

Essential to economy?
Like locusts you consume and you destroy
An indigenous population tainted
No longer hungry, but without joy

Craig, I myself love to see new things and explore when I travel. The idea of getting stupid drunk does nothing for me. Too much amazement out there -you described it to a T. Well done-

A great piece of writing, exposing your feelings of 'wasted' energy and life really. Missing out on such other beauty in our world, other than just getting ratted and rolled!
    Well done
    Michael :)

Yes, but how do you really feel about it Craig? Lol ....
I've been a 'blind tourist' (although perhaps not that drunk!) and I think you need to take into consideration the reasons for the holiday. Sometimes the need to just lie down for a week and relax is far greater, or more appealing than trekking about. Sad but true.
With regards to resorts that cater to young people on boozy 'rite of passage' holidays ... no doubt the locals do hate them and resent their reliance on such tourism.
Great rhyming used here to get your point across :-) x

This is so very true. I know more people that I care to admit who didn't leave 5 miles from Camp Casey when we were in Korea. They walked off post, crossed the street, got drunk, and stumbled back before curfew. It was such a wasted opportunity.

I went rock climbing, cliff diving, hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting, and even bungee jumping on that deployment!
