REGRET & REMORSE

by Gary Jurechka   Jan 12, 2006

Now that it is over,
is there a lesson
to be learned from all this?
A bright side? A silver lining?

Only a lesson learned
much too late.
The bright side is black and
the silver lining is tarnished
beyond cleansing.

I never meant to break your heart,
but then you broke mine.

Sometimes you don't get a second chance
and some things you lose in life
can never be found again.

And I hadn't realized until I died
that your love was the only thing
keeping me alive.

You have a beautiful way of saying so much in so little! the last stanza makes you stop and reread the entire poem again and again.
how true that once lost, some things can never be found again!
