The House That Never Sleeps

by Twisted Heart   Jun 28, 2006

It's quiet now, everyone has come and gone
Just shadows on darkened walls remain
The sky brightens as lightning hits the dawn
and winds blow trees against the panes

From upstairs comes a creepy sound
the mildewed curtains fall with grace
but now there's no one else around
except the ghosts who haunt this place

A happy family once walked these halls
a man, his child, and his wife
but bitter words were then recalled
like a serpent about to strike

A drink of death was on his lips
as heated words bounced around the room
In drunken hands the gun was slipped
sealing them in this house of gloom

He raised his arm, he pulled the trigger
and his wife fell down limp
upon the carpet soaked with liquor
He didn't know where his love had went

Look what he's done in his hate
his wife lay dead on the floor
and his son could not relate
when he opened up the door

He saw the pain in his son's eyes
as he gave witness to what was done
No way could he resort to lies
so once again, he shot the gun

Now two bodies, lay there together
blood stains growing on the floor
Both in arms bound to each other
maybe there should be one more

He takes the gun to his neck
one last thought before he shoots
All he loved in life now dead
in their wake he gives pursuit

Now all is quiet in the night
but sometimes you'll hear them weep
haunted tears of regret they cry
in the house that never sleeps

Absolutely Great!! That was awesome. I enjoyed it from the first line to the last. And it was so poignant and beautifully sad. Well done.

    Comment #4:
How do you do it? It's exremely hard to make a double homicide/suicide sound beautiful...but your wording is so powerful. I really do love your work and this is just one more reason why you're on my favorites. Amazing job once again and of course 5/5! :)

Wow amazing job. I saw this poem under the contest page and although normally I dont comment on thoes I just had to leave a message for this one. This was so original and deep. I love the last verse, very intersting and powerful the sence of loss and sadness that seems to loom over this house is very amazing. Wonderful job. 5/5
